Painting Garden Offices and Log CabinsOur log cabins can be finished with a variety of paint finishes though the finishes we have found most successful are either two coats of Sadolin One Coat or Sadolin Superdec available from most good paint wholesalers.
Cabin Living recommend Sadolin One coat. With experience we have found two coats of this treatment provides a particularly durable finish and it is available in most DIY stores.

If you require an opaque finish and require a broader colour palette we would recommend Sadolin Superdec. Mixed to order by specialist stockists this paint is harder to come by but does offer a wide selection of colours.
.Decorating Warehouse online is a particularly good source for this product.

Paint CoverageTwo 2.5L tins of treatment should be sufficient to complete most of the log cabins up to 4m x 3m in our range. Larger cabins will require at least three 2.5L tins if not more.
2.5 Litres will cover a surface area of 30m square (2 coats).
We offer a painting service as an installation option applying two coats of any of our recommended paints. An average (4m x 3m) sized cabin can be painted with two coats for £500 (includes labour and paint costs) please ask for a quotation when placing your order.
Water based vs Oil based paintsAs mentioned in our experience we prefer oil based paint finishes from the Sadolin or Osmo range for ease of application and longevity but there are ofcourse water based alternatives.
Of the water based alternatives Sadolin Superdec has proven in our years of cabin building to be a thick protective layer which will help to preserve the longevity of your cabin and seal the cabin from the elements.
Dulux weathershield and Cuprinol shades, which are available from most DIY centres, can be used for painting garden offices and log cabins. These are waterbased paints which tend to have a waxy/satin finish.
Bear in mind that waterbased paint will often need more coats including an undercoat to get a reasonable looking finish and may need several coats to actually seal the joins.
Waterbased paint may be slightly cheaper per tin but due to its covering ability, particularly from the Cuprinol's thinner paint ranges, you may end up applying more coats, spending more on extra tins of paint and spending more time painting!
